Stephen Curry Courted $212 Million Superstar to Join Warriors This Summer
In a bid to bolster the Golden State Warriors’ championship chances, Stephen Curry made a direct pitch this summer to recruit one of the NBA’s most sought-after superstars. The $212 million star, widely believed to be Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden, was reportedly a target for Curry as the Warriors look to solidify their roster and add more firepower alongside their existing core of Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
Curry, the face of the Warriors franchise and a two-time MVP, took an active role in the offseason recruitment process, recognizing the need for additional offensive firepower and versatility to complement the team’s current style of play. Harden, a perennial All-Star and former MVP, has been the subject of much speculation this summer as his future with the Sixers remains uncertain. His ability to play both as a point guard and shooting guard, combined with his elite scoring and playmaking, made him an ideal candidate to join the Warriors’ fast-paced, high-IQ offense.
However, while Curry’s efforts were ambitious, the Warriors faced significant financial and logistical hurdles in potentially acquiring Harden. With the team’s already high salary commitments and Harden’s large contract, fitting him under the salary cap would have required substantial maneuvering. Additionally, the Sixers’ reluctance to part ways with Harden without receiving significant assets in return made a deal challenging.
Though the recruitment did not materialize into a finalized trade, Curry’s involvement underscores the Warriors’ determination to remain championship contenders. As the team heads into the new season, it will be interesting to see how they continue to build around Curry’s leadership and whether any midseason moves could still be on the horizon.
