A 17-year-old teenager detained in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old schoolgirl in Croydon has been allowed a further 24 hours to face questioning by police.
On Wednesday morning during rush hour, the “much-loved” girl who had a “bright future” was killed after being stabbed with a foot-long (30cm) knife.
An hour later, the victim’s acquaintance, the youngster, was taken into custody.
Detectives have till Friday morning to decide whether to charge or free him.
The girl’s younger brother “is going to be so heartbroken,” according to a family acquaintance.
It’s simply terribly upsetting, Adama Dumbuya stated. She was such a kind young lady. I have kids of my own.
“The few times I met her, she was simply extremely beautiful. She’s just a really kind, courteous girl. She gave her brother’s care a lot of her aid. I simply can’t picture what he will be like.
I am aware of how near they were. She was continually watching over him. He’ll experience such anguish.
More than 40 bouquets of flowers, cards, candles, and tributes to the girl’s school’s “valued friend and pupil” had been placed close to the site.
By the police barrier, a woman who lives in the area and works nearby placed flowers.
“That little girl could not even go to school without being cut down,” she remarked. All of us have families and young teens in our lives. It has simply touched a nerve.
On the morning of the stabbing, a woman who had just dropped her kids off at school reported seeing someone laying on the ground.
“I circled, parked, and then made my best effort to approach near. It was a young lady, according to two little girls, and she had been stabbed in the neck.
Because I can still see her laying there, I haven’t really slept well.
