According to the most recent sources, Rangers have set an asking price of at least £5 million for star goalkeeper Jack Butland.
Butland, who saw action last season on the bench for Crystal Palace and Manchester United, is relishing his newfound freedom in Glasgow. In fact, he never got the chance to make his club debut during his loan stint at Manchester United.
The Red Devils then acquired Altay Bayindir to take Butland’s place as their primary backup goalkeeper and Andre Onana to replace David de Gea as their new number one.
In search of a fresh challenge, Butland signed with the Rangers, where he has swiftly reverted to his position as the starting center, taking over for the departed Allan McGregor.
It’s unclear how long he stays in Scotland, though. Rumors have recently surfaced suggesting that Butland, who started his professional career with Birmingham City, may be a target for Wayne Rooney.
After checking into the story, TEAMtalk discovered that Rangers are not interested in selling their new starting goalie until a sizable sum is offered.
Football Insider has now identified Rangers’ asking price at £5 million or higher, should a deal for Butland be made anytime soon. Moreover, the Scottish Premiership team doesn’t think Birmingham or anybody else in the English Championship will agree to their requests, according to the source.
Even if the 30-year-old were to still have a place in the Premier League, £5 million would still be a significant sum of money for a player of his age. Furthermore, Butland has never really been worth that much when he moved from Birmingham to Stoke City or Stoke to Crystal Palace.
Rangers are happy that Butland
The contract that the former England international signed in the summer when he moved north of the border means that Rangers will still hold the player until 2027. Everything will go down as profit if they do wind up selling him, perhaps to a significant degree considering that they got him for nothing.
He has made 17 appearances for the team thus far, giving up the same amount of goals while maintaining eight clean sheets. In actuality, Butland has already played in as many games for Rangers as he ever did for Crystal Palace.
Rangers, who just appointed Philippe Clement as manager in place of Michael Beale, have not had a great start to the season. However, it seems that Butland is one player they believe can offer some consistency in his role.
