Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić is reportedly thrilled about the team’s acquisition of Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors. On ESPN’s “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective,” Tim MacMahon mentioned that Luka is “really ecstatic” about the signing. The Mavericks secured Thompson with a three-year, $50 million contract in a sign-and-trade deal.
Thompson, a five-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion, spent 13 years with the Warriors, establishing himself as one of the greatest three-point shooters in NBA history. Despite facing serious injuries that sidelined him for two seasons, he made a strong comeback, helping the Warriors win their 2022 championship. However, last season saw a dip in his performance, leading to his departure from Golden State.
Now joining a Mavericks team that reached the NBA Finals last season, Thompson is expected to be the third star alongside Dončić and Kyrie Irving. This new role should reduce the pressure on him, allowing him to focus on his strength—hitting open three-pointers facilitated by his new teammates. If Thompson regains his form, he could be a perfect fit for the Mavs.
