Crystal Palace Head Coach Oliver Glasner has announced the signing of Daichi Kamada, marking a significant addition to the squad ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Kamada, a Japanese international midfielder, joins Palace on a free transfer after the end of his contract with Lazio. He has agreed to a two-year deal with the Eagles, pending international clearance.
The move reunites Kamada with Glasner, with whom he previously enjoyed a successful tenure at Eintracht Frankfurt. Under Glasner’s guidance, Kamada played a pivotal role in Frankfurt’s Europa League triumph in the 2021/22 season. The duo’s effective partnership at Frankfurt was characterized by Kamada’s versatility, intelligence, and work rate, making him a valuable asset for Crystal Palace.
Kamada’s football journey began in Japan with Sagan Tosu before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017. During his time in Germany, he was loaned to Belgian club Sint-Truidense, where he impressed with 16 goals and nine assists in 36 appearances. Returning to Frankfurt, he became integral to the team, amassing 179 appearances, 40 goals, and 33 assists.
The 27-year-old midfielder expressed his excitement about joining Crystal Palace and working with Glasner again. “I’m excited to be joining Crystal Palace, and to be working with Oliver – who is a coach I know well – again. I am looking forward to testing myself in the Premier League, and hopefully, the club and I can achieve all of our objectives together,” Kamada said.
Kamada’s arrival is part of Crystal Palace’s strategic moves to strengthen the squad under Glasner, who himself took charge after Roy Hodgson’s retirement earlier this year. The club aims to build on its previous performances and make a stronger impact in the upcoming Premier League season.
