Dermot Gallagher was confused by the Everton vs. Liverpool debate live on Sky Sports.

The contentious choice to leave Ibrahima Konate on the field during Everton’s match against Liverpool on Saturday (October 21) perplexed Dermot Gallagher.

The former Premier League referee called the French international’s challenge on Toffees striker Beto “so cynical” on Monday, October 23, at 11:31 a.m. on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, even though he did not receive a second yellow card for the charge.

The 24-year-old “knew what he was doing,” he said, adding the fact that Jurgen Klopp took his place just one minute later “tells the story” as the Reds won 2-0 at Anfield.

“A few things, isn’t that right?” asked Gallagher. “It’s so cynical that he doesn’t try to play ball.” Perhaps Craig (Pawson) makes the case that Konate understood exactly what he was doing, even though he won’t catch the ball.

“I believe the best way to describe it was that a minute later, Gomez was substituted and told to make ready to come on by the bench. That narrates the tale.

There was clearly a yellow card offense, and no well-known figure has publicly stated that Konate didn’t deserve to be sent out.

It’s indicative of how bad it was that Gallagher, a former high-level referee, is unable to comprehend why he wasn’t given his marching orders.

When the Frenchman fouled Beto, the game was tied at zero, so if the appropriate call had been made, the outcome may have been drastically different.

Ashley Young’s sending off for two yellow cards in the first half, which demonstrates the complete lack of consistency in the refereeing, irritates Everton even more.

In light of the fact that there is so much at risk and errors are occurring on a weekly basis, refereeing standards have not been up to par lately.

A contentious incident during the Merseyside Derby has angered Alan Shearer, in other Everton news.
