As a Bundesliga team confirms a late transfer, Liverpool receives a surprise windfall.

The signing of Kamil Grabara by Bundesliga club Wolfsburg for the year 2024 has unexpectedly helped Liverpool’s finances.

Both the Premier League and the Bundesliga have closed their transfer windows, but that did not stop Wolfsburg from announcing another deal on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Polish goalkeeper Grabara will sign a long-term contract with Niko Kovac’s team next summer after the transfer was prearranged.

Three years after leaving Anfield for FC Copenhagen, he will make the transition, which will bring his former team a substantial windfall.

Wolfsburg will pay €13.5 million, or roughly £11.6 million, for the stopper, with 20% going to Liverpool, according to Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.

As a result, Liverpool will earn £2.3 million when the deal is finalized. It has also been suggested that the trade might be moved forward to January.

The Polish international had also been connected with Fiorentina and Burnley before moving to the Reds from Ruch Chorzow in 2016. However, he never played for the main squad.

Koen Casteels, who will be leaving the club after his contract expires in July, is replaced by him at Wolfsburg.

Grabara’s transfer to the Volkswagen Arena has the support of Jorg Schmadtke, who served as sporting director at Wolfsburg before joining Liverpool earlier this year.

Kamil is a superb goalkeeper who is big, athletic, and unafraid to exit his goal, according to Schmadtke, who spoke to WAZ.

He has a powerful presence and plays in a loud, aggressive style.

With regard to Grabara, Schmadtke continued, “I can only say that VfL have made a very good catch and have found a top successor for Casteels.”

When Allan Rodrigues transferred from Atletico Mineiro to Flamengo earlier this summer, Liverpool previously benefited from another sell-on clause by getting £687,000.
