Unconvinced by interest in former Nottingham Forest striker, former Sheffield Wednesday star

Sheffield Wednesday has struggled to score goals since their return to the Championship, but one potential fix has received only a tepid reception from one ex-Owls star.

Lyle Taylor, a free agent striker, is on trial with Wednesday and has been practicing with them. He was also present at Hillsborough for the Owls’ midweek 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

Taylor, a former striker for Nottingham Forest and Charlton, with over 90 Championship matches and 23 goals.

Wednesday does have room to add players to its roster, but manager Xisco Munoz indicated they won’t make a decision about Taylor right now.

When it comes to Taylor’s needs, the Wednesday boss added, “If he needs a week, we’ll give him a week; if he needs 10 days, we’ll give him 10 days; if it’s just two days, we’ll give him two days.” We need to consider taking one step further for the team, though I won’t tell exactly how much time. We could be able to sign him tomorrow, or he might require more time.

Carlton Palmer, a former Sheffield Wednesday and England midfielder, isn’t sure Taylor can help Wednesday score the goals they need to move up the Championship standings.

Lyle Taylor does not look to be the striker that the Owls need based on the statistics, and given how the team is currently playing, it will be tough for any center forward to put up respectable numbers, he said to Football League World.

Because of the way Wednesday is currently playing, the striker is frequently left alone. Both Gregory and Smith are capable of scoring goals at this level, but neither is on the field.

With two points from seven games and a current ranking of 23, Wednesday is in serious need of both a victory and goals. Xisco’s squad has only scored five goals in seven attempts, which is tied with Middlesborough for the fewest in the Championship.
