Newcastle United is aware that defeating Borussia Dortmund would be a major step toward earning a spot in the Champions League knockout rounds. The Toon’s 4-1 victory over PSG demonstrated that Dortmund and AC Milan should be concerned about traveling to Tyneside.

Portuguese referee Artur Dias will be in the center of things for the German team when they take against Der BVB in a double header. Since 2010, the 44-year-old has served as an official at the European and international levels.

Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Los Blancos, criticized the referee after he officiated Manchester City’s match against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals the previous season. Vinicius Junior had taken the home team the lead in the first half, but Kevin De Bruyne’s incredible goal leveled the scores.

But Ancelotti was certain the ball had left play in the build-up to Man City’s equalizer, and he criticized the referees for letting the goal stand.

“It appeared as though the ball had been out,” Ancelotti informed Movistar. And before that, [the referee] failed to award a corner.

“The referee did not pay close attention. I told him to give them on the field, not off it, after he handed me a yellow card.

“The referee wasn’t paying attention, but those are minor matters. Not [me] off the field, but the players deserved more cards on the field.”

In order to win their first Champions League championship, Man City would defeat the opposition 4-0 in the second leg at the Etihad.
