Nick Pope will not be available for Newcastle’s trip to Everton on Thursday.
Nick Pope, the custodian for Newcastle United, is expected to miss their trip to Goodison Park on Thursday due to a possible dislocated shoulder.
The England international was hurt late in the game as the Magpies defeated Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park on Saturday. He landed awkwardly while diving. Pope cautiously left the pitch and was replaced quickly by Martin Dubravka with assistance from Newcastle’s medical team.
After the game, manager Eddie Howe stated that he believes Pope’s apparent serious injury—which is a “massive blow” for his already injured team—will keep him out of the game for some time. Newcastle’s top player may be out till the end of January due to this problem.
After the game, Howe told reporters, “It will be a massive blow for us if he is ruled out for any length of time,” as reported by the Chronicle. “Although it appeared rather innocent, it is often how things work and they are typically the most serious ones.
Dubravka entered with 10 minutes remaining and a slim advantage in a precarious scenario. It is not good for a goalie, therefore I have to give him credit for his performance.
“Nick has successfully undergone surgery on it previously and recovered. However, I have no idea what the future has in store for him. I also don’t know if he will require surgery, so we will get it looked at and cross our hopes that he returns soon.”
Following their own Saturday night triumph over Nottingham Forest, Everton will host Newcastle at Goodison Park on Thursday. Later in the month, they will play Chelsea, Burnley, Tottenham, and Manchester City.
