Joe Chapman believes that Nathaniel Chalobah and Jayson Molumby, two West Brom midfielders, will square off to see who starts beside Alex Mowatt for Saturday’s match against Sunderland.
According to a journalist for Birmingham Live (8 December), Carlos Corberan, the manager of the Baggies, is expected to start Chalobah alongside Mowatt in midfield and keep Molumby on the bench at the Stadium of Light.
West Brom is always there Okay, Yokuslu received his fifth yellow card in the 2-1 loss to Leicester City, so he is suspended for this important match on Saturday, December 9. Chapman believes Chalobah will start over Molumby.
“It would seem to be a straight fight for a starting spot alongside Alex Mowatt in the midfield,” he wrote.
Since Nathaniel Chalobah and Yokuslu have similar playing styles, Chalobah is thought to have a higher chance of being selected than Jayson Molumby.
Molumby, an Irish international, hasn’t started a match for Albion since their September goalless draw against Millwall. Before his injury, Chalobah had most recently started for Southampton.
The end might be near.
Molumby started the first eight Championship season games and was a mainstay in Carlos Corberan’s midfield during the early going of the season. However, the Spaniard hasn’t included Molumby in the starting lineup since September.
The outstanding play of Alex Mowatt, Okay Yokuslu, and Nathaniel Chalobah, the midfield trio that Corberan has rotated throughout the Baggies’ recent winning streak, has befallen the Irish international.
Yokuslu is expected to miss Saturday’s match, so Corberan will have to choose between Chalobah and Molumby, two players who have been on the outside this season. Chalobah will most likely be chosen in order to guarantee midfield security.
Although the former Chelsea and Watford player hasn’t performed as well as Yokuslu and Mowatt have this season, Corberan’s decision will undoubtedly be influenced by his experience and acumen at this level.
For Molumby, who played such a major role at The Hawthorns in the previous season, this is truly unfortunate. How much can change in football in a matter of months.
Should his lack of opportunities continue throughout December, the end may well be nigh for him. His opportunities for his country are of a direct consequence and that may be the decisive factor.
