It is claimeTennessee names UCF's Josh Heupel as head coach | Reutersd that another gifted player would leave the Tennessee Volunteers due to the transfer portal. Gerald Mincey, the starting offensive tackle, announced his plan to use the gateway on Thursday.

I want to thank Tennessee’s coaches and staff, especially Coach Heupel, for their unwavering support over the past two years.I am eternally appreciative 💚💚💚

After the 2021 season, Mincey transferred from the Florida Gators to Tennessee. Mincey appeared in nine games and started seven as left tackle during his rookie campaign in Knoxville. Mincey switched to the right side and made six starts in 2023. Despite injuries toward the end of the season, the tackle was a reliable starter for the majority of the campaign

Gerald Mincey (54), an offensive lineman for Tennessee, leaves the field following Tennessee’s match versus Georgia on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia.
Kns Vols Bp Georgia
This offseason, Mincey is the 12th Vol to use the portal.
Mincey is the most recent of numerous 2023 team members to leave the Vols for other opportunities. Wesley Walker, Doneiko Slaughter, and Tamarion McDonald are just a few of the defensive backs who have left.

During an NCAA college football game on Saturday, October 28, 2023 in Lexington, KY, Tennessee defensive back Doneiko Slaughter (0) tackled Kentucky running back Demie Sumo-Karngbaye (0). Additionally, Tyler Baron, an edge rusher, and fellow offensive linemen Mo Clipper Jr. and Addison Nichols were dismissed.

Who will take Mincey’s place?
The Vols will probably search the portal for a successor for Mincey. The only player with right tackle experience currently on the team is Dayne Davis. Bennett Warren, a four-star prospect, will shortly arrive on campus, but it is unlikely that the team will put a rookie in the thick of things.
