Like most Green Bay Packers fans, former NFL kicker and Pat McAfee thinks it was the right move for the team to get rid of Joe Barry as defensive coordinator.
Pat McAfee Gets Real About The Green Bay Packers Firing Joe Barry
During a recent episode of the Pat McAfee Show, the ex-Indianapolis Colts star shared his thoughts on the ideal quality of the man who would succeed Barry.
“They have to find somebody who can get the best out of all the talent the Packers have on defense”
Despite the Packers winning three games to close out their schedule in the 2023 NFL regular season and pulling off an upset in the wild-card round against the Dallas Cowboys, they still went on to fire Barry following their loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round. It appeared as though the Packers had already made up their minds on Barry after they lost back-to-back games to the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Weeks 14 and 15, respectively. The loss to the Buccaneers surely hurt Barry’s standing with Green Bay, as his defense got torched by Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers quarterback left Lambeau Field with a perfect passer rating of 158.3 after tossing for 381 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 22/28 completions.
Parting ways with Barry is just one step for the Green Bay Packers toward full rectification of their defense. Like what McAfee said, they have to find someone who can help their defense reach its true potential.
