Just in:Beyond the headband i could Liam McNeeley be a centerpiece for UConn men’s basketball?

The 6’7 forward from Richardson, Texas, Liam McNeeley, is a standout on the UConn men’s basketball team, easily identifiable by his distinctive white headband.

He started wearing it the summer before his freshman year of high school after his mother noticed that his hair was obstructing his view and affecting his shooting during a slump.

“I wouldn’t wear the headband at first and struggled with my shooting, but once I put it on, I scored 30 points in a summer game. Now, I never take it off… My mom was right,” McNeeley said with a smile during a recent media session on campus.

However, McNeeley’s game is not just about his appearance.

The 2024 McDonald’s All-American and top 15 recruit is an exceptional shooter, widely regarded as one of the best high school shooters in the country last season.

Liam McNeeley, one of the top recruits in UConn men’s basketball history, stands out not just for his skills but for his mindset. Despite his elite passing, athleticism, and defensive potential, UConn head coach Dan Hurley highlighted McNeeley’s exceptional mental approach.

Hurley noted that McNeeley, at just 18, is highly focused and serious about his role with UConn, reflecting the kind of maturity and competitiveness the team needs.

According to Hurley, McNeeley’s intense drive and competitive edge bring a necessary balance to the team.
