Grant Ward is anticipated to miss approximately eight weeks due to a hamstring injury, according to Matt Taylor’s latest update on the player’s injury.
The 29-year-old became aware of the issue after the 1-1 draw between Bristol Rovers and Norwich City on January 6, a match in which Ward scored a lovely goal to give the Gas an equalizer. There’s a better sense now about how long Taylor will be without one of his best players after speaking with a surgeon.
The Pirates are already thin on players in the middle of the park, so Ward’s absence is more problematic. Taylor disclosed, “So he’s not having surgery.” This week, he saw a surgeon, so This week is a non-surgical week. Since a tendon is involved, a hamstring injury is unfortunately likely to require eight weeks to heal. However, it should be noted that there is a significant risk factor associated with this type of injury.”It’s one of those injuries where there’s a good chance he could re-injure that body part if it’s not surgically repaired, so we have to be very mindful that his rehab is important, and that when he returns, his training and game time is where it needs to be, but we’ve probably saved ourselves four weeks by not having surgery. Because that wasn’t a factor in the decision-making process, the surgeon decided whether or not that injury required surgery.
