News Now: Just-released Browns running back signs with the Packers

Reversing course Kenyan Drake was released by the Cleveland Browns and didn’t go without a team for too long.

On Tuesday, December 5, Drake became a member of the Green Bay Packers practise squad. His sixth team of the year is the Packers. The running back made jokes on social media following the announcement of his “North American tour.”

Browns swap out Kenyan Drake to bring back John Kelly Jr. to the practice squad - BVM Sports

On October 31, Drake became a member of the Browns practise squad. Drake was brought in as insurance since the organisation was concerned about injuries to Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt. But he never played for Cleveland, and on November 28 he was cut loose. John Kelly was re-signed by the Browns to replace Drake on the practise squad.

Drake was an intriguing acquisition to the Browns at the time of his signing. After leaving Alabama for his ninth season, he has participated in 103 games, making 44 starts. With 868 carries, 3,866 yards, and 33 touchdowns, his total is impressive.

But with Ford, Hunt, and Pierre Strong Jr. together, the Browns feel confident moving ahead. Hunt has been the lead back, while Ford has been the primary back. The Browns are eighth in the NFL in terms of average run yardage per game (135.1).

Kevin Stefanski picks Hall of Famers brains after Browns 12-6 season

Considering that the club lost Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb for the season in Week 2, it’s quite an accomplishment. Chubb had been a mainstay for the Browns since being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draught. During the previous season, he ran for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns. He had over 1,000 yards of rushing for the fourth straight season, and his career 5.3 yards per carry is among the best in the league.

Browns Run Game Struggled Against Rams

Although the Browns’ running backs have had some respectable games this season, the team struggled on Sunday in a 36-19 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.

Against the Rams, the Browns were only able to muster 87 yards and 3.8 yards per rush.

“We just attempt to move the ball in every way that we can at all times. On Monday, December 4, Browns head coach and offensive play-caller Kevin Stefanski remarked, “Felt like there were some opportunities in the run game.” “It was difficult going in, but in the second half, things really got going, and I think we’ll just keep looking for ways to be really effective offensively.”

Browns QB Joe Flacco Reverts to Practice Squad

The lack of a consistent run game didn’t do any favors for quarterback Joe Flacco,
who was making his first start for the Browns. But the veteran passer shined against the Rams, completing 23-of-44 of his passes for 254 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

A costly fourth-quarter interception ruined what was otherwise a solid day for the 38-year-old QB.

Despite Flacco’s strong showing, the Browns have yet to commit to him as the starter going forward. Flacco reverted to the practice squad on Monday and Stefanski wasn’t ready to name his starting QB.

“I’m not going to get into those types of things on Monday,” Stefanski said. “We’ll work through that.”

Flacco can still be called up from the practice squad two more times. Rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is still in concussion protocol and the other option for the Browns would be PJ Walker.
