It is reported by Voet Baulk Rant that Rangers are interested in paying upwards of £2.6 million to recruit Nathaniel Adjei, a defender for Hammarby.
The 21-year-old centre back is being watched by a number of Championship teams, including Celtic, Anderlecht, and the Light Blues, according to a report from the Belgian publication on their website on Tuesday, November 21.
Standard Liege is one such team that is interested in acquiring the Ghanaian defender, but it is unlikely that the Belgian squad would be able to pay the transfer price needed to persuade Hammarby to part ways with Adjei—a transaction that may cost anywhere from £2.6 to £3.5 million.
Because of his versatility as a full-back and center-back, Adjei is a target for Anderlecht, who are eager to get the defender to replace Jan Vertonghen and Zeno Debast.
defensive bolstering
With Rangers under the Belgian’s direction moving from strength to strength with the Light Blues presently undefeated in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League, Philippe Clement has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in Glasgow.
Adjei could be a wise addition to the team, though, as the Gers are eager to bolster their roster ahead of the January transfer window in an attempt to support Clement in his pursuit of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership championship.
The 21-year-old played 21 games for Hammarby in Sweden this season, starting 16 of them. Rather than providing Rangers with an instant backline boost in January, his acquisition would be more of a long-term strategy.
At the centre of Clement’s defence in recent weeks have been Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun, with Ben Davies and John Souttar holding out for a chance to go back into the starting lineup. Rangers seem more inclined to spend a few million pounds on an offensive midfielder this January than on another defender.
