In his CaughtOffside blog, Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Tottenham Hotspur is considering a deal for Goncalo Inacio, a center-back for Sporting Lisbon.
Since making his debut for Portugal earlier this year, Inacio has been capped five times. Over the past two years, he has established himself as one of the Primeira Liga’s most reliable centre backs.
According to Romano, Tottenham’s recruiting department is now discussing potential centre backs, and the 22-year-old is one of the players they have their eye on.
The writer claims that because the central defender has a €60 million (£51.8 million) release clause, the transaction would be “complicated” for Spurs to finalise in January.
Spurs are considering Goncalo Inacio.
He clarifies that Sporting will not allow its academy graduate to depart in the middle of the season, which is why the Lilywhites may want to pursue this transaction next summer.
Romano goes on to say that because Micky van de Ven is anticipated to return to play in January, Tottenham does not want to invest a significant amount of money on a center-back.
He concludes by saying that Inacio is being watched by Manchester United and Liverpool in addition to Spurs.

For the Spurs, Inacio fits several criteria: he is youthful, left-footed, fast, and somewhat combative. Romero and Van de Ven, though, are obviously going to remain Postecoglou’s preferred duo, thus the club will probably look for a less expensive backup.
