Welsh snooker player Michael White has been sentenced to three years in prison for multiple domestic violence offenses. The 33-year-old, from Neath Abbey in South Wales, was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on his former partner. These assaults occurred over more than a year, resulting in significant injuries to the victim.
In response to the conviction, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has taken decisive action. They have removed White from their membership, which means he has been expelled from the World Snooker Tour and stripped of his world ranking. The WPBSA emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior and convened an emergency board meeting to address the issue immediately following White’s sentencing.
PC Ellen Green of South Wales Police highlighted the importance of addressing violence against women and girls, underscoring that such behavior will not be tolerated and urging victims not to suffer in silence.
