The £12 million Newcastle player was “out of sorts” against Tottenham yesterday, according to Alan Pardew.

Alan Pardew has shared who he was somewhat surprised to see have a particularly bad game against Tottenham as they beat Newcastle United 4-1.

Pardew was critical of Kieran Trippier’s performance who was up against an in-form Heung-Min Son who just seemed to breeze past the defender on every occasion.

Speaking on talkSPORT after the game, Pardew revealed how he thought Trippier had looked very tired after his long run of games in the team and in need of a rest to get back to his best.

Pardew says Trippier struggled to cope against Tottenham

It was a bad day all round for everyone involved at Newcastle after yet another humbling defeat in just a matter of four days.

It feels somewhat unfair to be singling Trippier out after the 33-year-old has proven to be such a reliable player and leader time and time again, but his last two games have been way off his usual standard.

For Tottenham’s second goal, the experienced right-back was caught between two players at first before trying to take on Son one-on-one, getting his feet completely wrong and allowing the South Korean to cross to Richarlison who fired home.

It’s a very difficult match up for even the best right-backs in the world, which Trippier is certainly amongst, so there’s no shame in saying he got beat on the day, but the £12m player won’t want to make it a regular occurrence

On talkSPORT, Pardew said: I do really love him [Son]. I think he is a brilliant player, and he plays with a smile on his face… He was majestic today. I think he came up against a very tired Trippier. He looked out of sorts today, Trippier, but Son was still electric.”
