The “excellent” manager of Sheffield United may be named this weekend.

This season, the Bramall Lane team has not yet managed to win a victory.

In the Premier League, Heckingbottom’s side have had a hugely disappointing start to the new campaign and find themselves at rock bottom of the table having won zero, drawn one and lost eight of their opening nine games, having followed the 8-0 humiliation against Newcastle with defeats to West Ham, Fulham and Manchester United.

In an interview with Yorkshire Live on the club’s financial status, the Blades manager recently acknowledged that he and the management team could have made better, more significant additions during the summer. Nevertheless, his job is coming under increasing threat with each passing game.

Prior to games against Arsenal, Wolves, and Brighton, the Bramall Lane team is considering their alternatives for replacing their present manager.

Furthermore, it seems that they are focusing on Chris Wilder, one of their former leaders who served as head from May 2016 to March 2021. The 56-year-old was last seen in a dugout at Watford, but he may soon return to action after leaving the position there earlier this year in May.

Chris Wilder desired a return to Sheffield United.

Football Insider, who has provided a Sheffield United manager update, claims that Wilder has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Heckingbottom in the event that he is relieved of his responsibilities this coming weekend.

“Sources tell Football Insider that if Sheffield United loses to Arsenal on Saturday, they want to fire Paul Heckingbottom and appoint former manager Chris Wilder in his stead. Club executives have reached out to Wilder, who is reportedly in the wings ready to replace Heckingbottom.

“Football Insider has been informed by a reliable source that Sheffield United’s owners have reconciled with the 56-year-old following his dismissal as Blades manager in March 2021.”

Sheffield United’s record with Chris Wilder
Supporters can clearly see the positive impact Wilder had over the course of his reign at Sheffield United, as he managed 227 games during his tenure, winning 106, drawing 44, and losing 77 of them while averaging 1.59 points per game (Transfermarkt – Wilder statistics).

The coach, who was born in Stocksbridge, has also been promoted three times in his managing career, so he is well-versed in what it takes to compete and succeed at the necessary level. In addition, he will have an established rapport with a number of the team’s present players and staff.

Journalist Josh Bunting describes Wilder as a “excellent” leader, therefore the board choosing to reappoint him would be the perfect choice. This is a move that should be closely monitored in the coming future.
