Martin Truex Jr. announced his retirement from full-time NASCAR competition after the 2024 season. During a press conference with Joe Gibbs, Truex expressed that he felt it was time to take control of his life and schedule. While he will no longer race full-time, Truex will stay with Joe Gibbs Racing in an ambassadorial role and may participate in occasional NASCAR Xfinity Series races.
Truex emphasized that his decision came after years of contemplation, wanting to live on his own terms and make his own schedule. Despite his departure, he still has a passion for racing and plans to stay involved in some capacity.
Joe Gibbs tried to keep Truex for another season but understood his decision. Truex, who turns 44 soon, has had a successful 19-year career with 34 victories and a 2017 Cup Series championship. As he steps back, NASCAR President Steve Phelps praised Truex for his contributions to the sport.
Reflecting on his career, Truex expressed pride in his achievements, saying he’s content with what he’s accomplished, despite some missed opportunities.
